Full-Stack Software Engineering
Delivery from database to interface across web, mobile and API surfaces, retaining abstractions only where they earn their place.
Software engineer and systems builder with eight years converting tangled requirements into production software. I work across backend, frontend, cloud infrastructure and security, because a system only holds together when all four do.
I'm Martin Mbithi Nzilani, a software engineer specialising in enterprise application development, systems integration and secure cloud infrastructure. For eight years I have engineered and maintained the web, mobile and cloud systems that carry money, statutory records and public accountability, and therefore cannot quietly fall over. Thirteen of them are government platforms now in production, serving over 3,000 users across 11 county departments. That work spans full-stack development, Linux and Unix administration, cloud infrastructure and REST API integration, with a recurring theme of replacing manual routine with automated, measurable process.
I have delivered this inside government, an NGO, a college and private product teams. Public-sector engineering in particular teaches you to read a policy document and see the data model hiding inside it, and to build for auditors as well as users. I deliver in Agile teams, apply DevOps practice as a discipline rather than a label, and invest real effort in mentoring junior engineers.
I currently sit inside county digital transformation at the Government of Makueni County, engineering financial and citizen-facing platforms and integrating them with banks and payment gateways. An MSc in Cyber Security and Digital Forensics underpins that work, keeping information security in front of me at every layer of a system rather than bolted on at the end.
Engineering, infrastructure and security capability, with the delivery practice that keeps it maintainable after handover.
Delivery from database to interface across web, mobile and API surfaces, retaining abstractions only where they earn their place.
Cloud infrastructure, container orchestration and CI/CD deployment pipelines on AWS and Google Cloud, provisioned for workloads that have to stay available.
Secure software development, system audits, hardened authentication and least-privilege access control, held in place by unit and automated test suites.
Schema design and query optimisation across relational and document stores, with caching introduced where read pressure justifies it.
REST API design and integration with banks, payment gateways and third-party systems, documented well enough for the next engineer to use.
Agile, Scrum and Kanban delivery managed through JIRA, with code review, mentorship and documentation that survives handover.
Languages, frameworks and platforms applied in production work.
